2GRFE Toyota MR2 Swap Service The 2GR is the arguably the best engine for the MR2 platform given todays options. With an aluminum block, the 3.5-liter engine is extremely light weight for its size compared to the older 3S iron blocks. 2GR-FE Power Gains Toyota rates the 2GR at 269hp (at the flywheel), give or take a bit depending on the application. My swapped MR2 initially dyno'd 280hp (at the wheels). Assuming 17% drive train loss, that's 337hp at the flywheel, or a gain of 68hp vs stock and a specific output of 96hp per liter. The conrod is from the Lexus 1UZ-FE V8 engine. The big end of the 1UZ conrods are 2mm (0.080') wider then the 2GR-FSE. We machined the rods to the correct width. The small end does not need to be machined. To get the 4L engine size we needed a 92 mm stoke. MR2 SW20 2GR-FE Race engine - Duration: 3:14. The 2GR-FE engine had 94.0 mm bores and an 83.0 mm stroke for a capacity of 3456 cc; bore pitch was 105.5 (i.e. The distance between the centre of adjacent bores), while cylinder bank offset was 36.6 mm. Between the cylinder bores, passages existed for coolant flow.

1. Compression Ratio
Choose 9.0:1 compression for turbo, supercharged or extreme nitrous applications. 10.8:1 works great with low to medium boosted turbo and supercharged setups. Choose 12.0:1 for the ultimate in naturally aspirated performance.

2. Connecting rods
Select stock or upgraded connecting rods for naturally aspirated and lightly boosted engine combinations. For serious turbocharged, supercharged or nitrous applications we strongly recommend upgrading to Crower billet connecting rods for additional safety and strength.

3. Core charge
Like most engine builders we sell these engines, heads and blocks on an exchange basis. That means that we require you to send us a rebuildable “core” similar to the engine, head or block that we are sending to you. If we’re going to send the rebuilt unit to you first then we charge you a core charge, which is a deposit that we hold on to until your core is returned to us and is then refunded to you. For a full refund of your core charge the core must be returned within 30 days and must be rebuildable- this means no holes or cracks in the block, no significant damage to cylinder heads, and no missing bits such as cam caps. We don’t care about pistons or rods. Valves may be bent, crankshafts may be scuffed.

4. Bore size
Choose 94mm (stock) for a standard 3.5L build with standard bores. Choose 97mm for a Darton wet sleeved block- not only does this increase your displacement to 3.7L, it increases your engine’s torque and power output accordingly. It also incorperates Darton’s MID technology, making the block semi-closed deck for excellent bore stiffness and boost handling.

The Toyota GR engine is an open deck V6 piston with a 60° die-cast aluminium block and aluminium DOHC cylinder heads. The engine was first used in the Evora as a 3456cc normally aspirated engine and then it was supercharged for the Evora S and the new Exige V6.

track-group have extensive experience of this engine in track and race cars and our dyno is fully configured to run in and power test these engines. We can offer brand new crate engines either standard or with a number of upgrade options including improved pistons & connecting rods. We can also offer rebuild and upgrade services for the 4.0l NA GT4 Evora engine including the new pistons, camshafts and power upgrade.

track-powertrain can also provide these engines configured with aftermarket ECU and electronics options, improved exhaust systems, camshafts and other improvements for significant horsepower gains.
